The Africa Centre and Almas Art Foundation are proud to present ‘Khartoum’ (2025).

The Africa Centre is proud to present ‘Khartoum’ (2025) a film by Rawia Alhag, Ibrahim Snoopy Ahmad, Anas Saeed, Timeea M. Ahmed, with Yousef Jubeh and Phil Cox.

A civil servant, a tea lady, a resistance committee volunteer and two street boys. Five people, one city, a nation at war. Their stories weave together in search of freedom through animated dreams, street revolutions and civil war within the metropolis of Khartoum. In 2022, Sudanese filmmakers, in collaboration with a British writer/director, an Irish Palestinian editor, and supported by indie company Native Voice Films and Sudan Film Factory with Ayin Network, began filming this emotional and innovative film. They capture the stark realism of one of Africa's great cities as it is consumed by revolution and civil war with its resilient inhabitants determined to keep their dreams intact despite being forced to flee. The film had its world premiere at Sundance 2025 and European premiere at the Berlinale 2025. It has received several awards including Peace Film Prize at Berlinale (2025) and Best Documentary at the African Movie Academy Awards (2025).

This screening will be held as part of the film program ‘Voices and Visions of Sudan’ which invites viewers to engage with Sudan as a living cultural landscape shaped by memory, struggle, and imagination. Through the lens of filmmakers - across generations and aesthetic modes - we encounter cinema as a form of social inquiry and cultural continuity.

We invite you to join us on the 28th of February at 2:00pm for the screening of ‘Khartoum’ (2025).
