Helping children aged 7–12 understand sadness, build emotional awareness and learn healthy coping skills in a safe, guided workshop.

🌧 Mindful Juniors Presents: Big Feelings Club – Sadness

Understanding Sadness and Learning How to Express It Safely

A Mindful Juniors Workshop | Ages 7–12

Sadness is one of the most misunderstood emotions in childhood.

Some children withdraw.
Some become irritable.
Some say “I’m fine” when they are not.

But sadness is not a problem to eliminate.
It is a feeling that carries meaning.

In this gentle, structured workshop, children will learn how to understand sadness rather than fear or suppress it.

🌱 What This Workshop Is About

This session helps children explore:

• What sadness feels like in the body
• The thoughts that often accompany sadness
• Why sadness shows up when something important matters
• Healthy ways to express and regulate difficult feelings
• How to ask for support safely

Through storytelling, guided reflection, creative activities and age-appropriate CBT-based tools, children will begin to build emotional insight and resilience.

We help them understand:

Sadness is not weakness.
Sadness is information.

When children learn to understand their inner world, they become less overwhelmed by it.

🧠 What Children Will Gain

This workshop supports:

• Emotional vocabulary and granularity
• Self-awareness and body awareness
• Emotional regulation skills
• Healthy coping strategies
• Confidence in expressing feelings
• Resilience during disappointment or loss

This session aligns with evidence-based social and emotional learning principles and supports long-term emotional intelligence development.

🎨 What We Will Do During the Session

Children will participate in:

• Emotion check-in circle
• Story-based discussion
• Body awareness activity
• Thought–feeling exploration
• Reflection on what sadness is protecting or caring about
• Creation of a personal “When I Feel Sad” coping plan

Activities are developmentally appropriate, interactive and psychologically safe.

👩‍🏫 Who Is This For?

• Struggle with disappointment, exclusion or friendship challenges
• Feel big emotions but do not know how to express them
• Tend to withdraw when upset
• Become easily tearful or overwhelmed
