Join us for a unique experience delving into the intricate geometry of the largest stupa in the world, right here in Southeast Asia! In this workshop we will explore the symbolism and design of this ancient marvel with our own hands, through a contemplative lens. Class begins with an introductory slideshow, and then we dive into using the simple yet profound and time-tested tools of compass, straightedge and pencil to dive into a meditative process of connecting head, heart and hand and allowing these timeless patterns to reveal themselves.
What is Contemplative Geometry?
Contemplative geometry is the holistic study of the relationships between numbers, shapes, and patterns as they occur in nature and as applied and revered in sacred art and architecture across cultures around the world. It emphasises the underlying universal language and fundamental principals within and around us. The practice of drawing with a compass is an age-old practice known and necessary for our ancestors. It can be a transformative practice as it touches a primordial place in us. Sessions are held in a restful and contemplative environment and are an opportunity to slow down and enjoy the process of connecting to primordial shapes and patterns.
