Otherness Archives 3rd Birthday Fundraiser Event

Guns, muscles, chicks, and heists are an anthem for an action-packed blockbuster!

-

Through cliche tropes, a new gender outlaw emerges, subverting what masculinity feels and looks like. We celebrate the films that unapologetically honor our t muscles, troublemaker attitudes, and the kinships we make along the way.

-

Celebrate 3 years of Otherness Archive with a series of films with Introduction from Sweatmother and performance by body builder, Cairo Leon.

Film Synopsis's:

Bodieless Thing WET MESS United Kingdom 14 min

I, I, I, I, I, I, I, Kathy Amy Gwatkin United Kingdom 2019 4 min

Featuring contributors to I,I,I,I,I,I,I, Kathy Acker, a major exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, director Amy Gwatkin presents a portrait of the literary luminary via Bhanu Kapil, Linda Stupart, and Carl Gent—some of the show’s contributing artists, writers and musicians. Gwatkin also invited artists Kasra Jalilipour, Noel Anderson, and Deniz Unal to feature in this film and channel the spirit of the creative iconoclast who died in 1997 at the age of 50 after battling cancer.

Hormonal Maz Murray United Kingdom 2023 12 min

Young trans guy Gary catches eyes with brooding trans geezer Ian across the square of their Essex hometown, and unwittingly walks in to a testosterone heist plot...

Transgender criminal underclass small town bois take on roided Essex gym bro gangsters in this neo-noir crime caper flight of fancy.

Les Sports X-trem Gio Ventura France 2023 19 min

Les Sports X-trem is a cinematic poem about muscle worship and boxing that uses sports training as an analogy for relationships that blur the line between friends and more than friends.

Outlaw Alisa Lebow United States 1994 26 min

Leslie Feinberg, a self-identified "gender outlaw" who has spent much of zir life passing as a man, speaks with passion and intelligence about zir experiences in this film manifesto. Raw and confrontational, this film asks its audience to examine their assumptions about the "nature" of gender and calls for more sensitivity and awareness of the human rights and the dignity of transgendered people. Feinberg is the author of STONE BUTCH BLUES (Firebrand), an account of a working-class lesbian who passes as a man.

Unhung Heroes Lazlo Pearlman United States 2002 13 min

Unhung Heroes is a comic fiction about five transgender guys who, after finding an internet article announcing the first actual penis transplants are about to be performed, imagine a scheme to come up with over a million dollars in surgery money.
