Gain the confidence and ability to give your clothes new life in this 90 minute Intro to DIY Upcycling: Basic Mending and Tailoring

Bring something old or something new to you and give your clothes a second life! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn practical skills to repair, refresh, and tailor your wardrobe. We’ll cover simple mending techniques (hemming, patching, fixing seams, sewing on buttons) as well as basic tailoring adjustments to improve fit and comfort. No prior sewing experience is required—just bring a garment you’d like to work on, any notions you will need, your creativity and we’ll provide guidance every step of the way.

By the end of class, you’ll walk away with:
✔️ Confidence to tackle common clothing repairs
✔️ Skills to adjust garments for a better fit
✔️ Knowledge to extend the life of your wardrobe sustainably

Shauna Hughes is the owner of Harvest & Hide (@harvestandhideco), specializing in custom leather goods and leather jewelry. With over 22 years of sewing experience, she brings a deep passion for sustainability and upcycling—transforming thrifted finds, closet staples, and fabric scraps into beautiful, functional pieces that avoid the landfill. With a strong community-focused mindset, Shauna enjoys helping people learn tangible skills, such as sewing and leatherworking, to build confidence in their ability to be self-sustaining. Outside the classroom, she runs a small homestead focused on regenerative agriculture and is in the process of establishing an in-house tannery to produce ethically sourced leather from start to finish.
