Digital Culture Talks 3 brings together artists, cultural leaders and technologists to explore how creativity can thrive in both physical and digital spaces. Across two days of discussion, case studies and debate, we’ll explore how new technologies are shaping audience experiences, opening up opportunities for collaboration, and reimagining the role of arts and culture in a digital-first world.

Day Two: Innovation, Performance & the Future of Digital Culture

Day 2 of this 2-day conference will be taking place in-person. Join us for a day packed with lively debate and networking opportunities with inspiring colleagues from across the cultural and creative sector.

Screen culture: how artists are using technology to transform how audiences experience performance

Time: 12:30 – 13:45

What is ‘performance capture’? A multi-camera recording of a live show shot in a theatre or concert hall and distributed through TV or an on-demand digital service? That’s certainly one version and done well it can give viewers a ‘best seat in the house’ experience.

But artists are being increasingly innovative about how they use technology to distil a performance for viewers. They no longer necessarily want to try and reconstruct the experience of being in a venue but rather are choosing and using technology to enhance the creative ambition and audience impact of their work.

Our panel discusses how technology shapes audience experience and how the choice of digital format - whether that’s mobile-first, big screen, VR or others - moulds viewers’ engagement with and impressions of performance work.
