As we move from Lent towards Passiontide, let this beautiful music create space for reflection and hope.

A programme of sacred music and readings in St Chad's Cathedral, Birmingham.

Our great Elizabethan composers William Byrd, Thomas Tallis and Orlando Gibbons are featured, together with their European contemporaries Thomás Luis de Victoria, Dominique Phinot, Carlo Gesualdo and the slightly later Antonio Lotti, to create a wonderful Lent and Passiontide programme. Choral singing by the Birmingham Bach Choir will be punctuated with readings by Archbishop Bernard Langley and organ pieces played by Martyn Rawles.

Programme:

Gesualdo: Tenebrae Responsories for Holy Saturday

Gibbons: Drop, Drop Slow Tears

Lotti: Crucifixus

Byrd: Miserere Mei

Victoria: O vos omnes

Phinot: Incipit oratio Jeremiae prophetae

Tallis: Lamentations of Jeremiah

Salvator mundi

Performers:

Paul Spicer: conductor

Archbishop Bernard Langley: reader

Martyn Rawles: organist
