While compèring is easily acknowledged as another branch of the standup skillset, there are specific requirements of this that must be focused on, on top of those used in a standard standup performance. This one day, intensive course aims to cover all of those in a way that elevates compères of all levels.
This workshop is aimed at existing standup comedians who want to hit the ground running with their compèring, and existing compères who may find some areas of their skillset requires fine tuning or improvement.
Areas covered includes the advantages of attaining this ability, where it varies from straight standup, compère responsibilities, awareness of the 4th wall adjusting your act to environmental considerations, housekeeping, mic technique, styles of introduction, being a master of ceremonies, timekeeping, when to use material / interaction, the fundamentals of crowdwork, how to frame your performance, and some tips and don’ts that will elevate all levels of performance.
The course will take a procedural approach and each attendee will be offered to ‘host a show’ so that feedback both common to all performers and specific to the individual will be worked through in a group setting.
Attendance of Stephen's previous workshops is NOT required to attend this.
