Climate science on trial: improving the evidentiary basis for climate accountabilityJameela Joy Reyes and Nicholas PetkovClimate litigation is increasingly successful in establishing legal principles for holding governments and corporations to account, but challenges remain in using scientific evidence effectively. The Climate Law and Evidence project, based on ongoing interdisciplinary research at the LSE Grantham Research Institute and Imperial Grantham Institute, analyses how evidence is used in climate litigation, engaging with experts and practitioners to strengthen case building. This seminar will provide a brief overview of the project, sharing some insights into the evidentiary challenges faced by litigators in this field and situate recent trends in climate litigation within wider discussions on climate action, scientific expertise and legal mobilisation.
