Join CLSJ to celebrate the legacy and impact of "The East", a pan-African organization and nation in the heart of Central Brooklyn.

Cinema With A Cause is a monthly screening series featuring thought‑provoking films, followed by guided discussions exploring social justice themes and community impact.

The Sun Rises in the East" is a documentary that highlights the development and legacy of "The East", a pan-African cultural organization founded in 1969 in Central Brooklyn. Led by educator and activist, Jitu Weusi, "The East" produced and promoted Black owned businesses, schools, and cultural events. The filmakers, Cynthia Gordy Giwa and Tayo Giwa, along with East educator, Mama Fela, will be blessing us with a post-film Q&A!
