In 1975, Mrs. Harry Lynde "Peg" Bradley gifted nearly 400 twentieth-century masterpieces to the Milwaukee Art Museum, profoundly shaping the Museum's collection and Milwaukee's cultural landscape. Her collection placed the city in the global spotlight as a leading cultural destination for modern art, and its legacy continues to inspire generations.
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of this extraordinary philanthropic gesture, the Milwaukee Art Museum is proud to present The Bradley Collection of Modern Art: A Bold Vision for Milwaukee, now on view through January 19, 2026. Peg Bradley was a prominent Milwaukee-based philanthropist and prolific art collector who followed her intuition and personal taste to build a substantial collection of modern and contemporary paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. Her remarkable gift prompted the construction of a new wing at the Museum and enriched the collection with strong holdings of German Expressionism, postwar abstraction, and modern sculpture—many of which are now considered the Museum’s great treasures.
The exhibition features nearly 100 works by renowned artists Gabriele Münter, Barbara Hepworth, Alex Katz, Georgia O’Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, and Mark Rothko, among many others, and presents these iconic artworks like never before with new scholarship and recent conservation treatments.
The Woman’s Club of Wisconsin is proud to continue our rich relationship with the Milwaukee Art Museum. On November 18th, we are thrilled to welcome Liz Siegel, Chief of Curatorial Affairs at the Milwaukee Art Museum, who will lead us thorough a talk on this important new exhibit where we will learn more about how Peg Bradley acquired and built her collection, and the role of color, sculpture, and works on paper in creating a world-class art collection.
