This practical workshop, led by Ross McKirdy of Grampian Transport Museum, introduces the core principles of caring for large museum objects. Participants will explore conservation vs restoration, ethical approaches and the basics of common materials. The session covers how to assess, document and apply simple interventive measures — both indoors and outdoors — and offers guidance on safely moving and packing large or complex items. Hands-on elements will allow staff and volunteers to try techniques and discuss tools or approaches relevant to their own collections.
Please note that tea and coffee will be provided, but bring a packed lunch with you!
