Come and celebrate with us at CamJam - a fun-filled event with Raspberry Pi and computing-related talks, Show & Tell, plus workshops

CamJam returns for the 14th Birthday of Raspberry Pi!

Cambridge Raspberry Jam (known as CamJam) is an event and meet-up for those interested in the Raspberry Pi family of computing devices, and other technologies which encourage making and education.

There will be a series of talks, organised Raspberry Pi workshops, plus a “Show and Tell” area for people to show off their projects. We are fully inclusive of technology: if your project is based around an Arduino, micro:bit or something else, we would still love to see it!

There will be a pop up shop by Raspberry Pi and potentially other vendors (TBC).

This CamJam is being hosted by Makespace, Cambridge's community workshop.

Please note: this is a ticketed event with a small admission fee (but only for adults - children can attend for free). However, if this would affect your ability to attend, please contact us

Children must always be supervised while at Makespace with a maximum ratio of one adult to three children. This is a Makespace health and safety requirement and a condition for holding CamJam at Makespace.

Activities

We are going to be offering an assortment of activities, which will include:

  • Talks - aimed at a variety of different abilities and on a variety of different topics.
  • Workshops - to allow participants to learn and practice skills.
  • Show and Tell - an area for makers to show off their projects and talk to participants about them.
  • The brilliant Unplugged Tots will be back with playful screen-free pre-computer coding activities for 2½ to 8 year olds. For more information, see their website

Marketplace

There will be pop up Raspberry Pi and Raspberry Pi Publishing shops.

Getting involved

We are looking for the following to help us to make the Jam the best experience possible.

  • Presenters - come along and give a talk, attended by a variety of people with different levels of knowledge.
  • Show-and-Tell - have a table to show off your technology projects.
  • Jam Makers - to take on general marshalling responsibilities.

Code of Conduct and Access for All

Please make sure you read our Code of Conduct before attending one of our events.

Does your son or daughter have special educational needs? We would like to help. Please read our Access for All policy and let us know when booking.

Talks

Details about the talks will be here when available - if you would like to give a talk, please contact us.

Workshops

Anyone attending a workshop will need to have a general admission ticket.

These workshops are self-guided for the most part but we'll have help on-hand should you get stuck.

Details about the workshops will be shown here when released.

Information for attendees

CamJam is being held at Makespace which is in the centre of the city of Cambridge, UK.

Pros:

  • An Official Raspberry Pi pop-up store will be at the Jam.
  • The actual Raspberry Pi store is a five minute walk away!
  • There are loads of great places to eat and shop nearby.
  • You can get out and about and find some Dinky Doors!

Cons:

  • You might spend money at the previously mentioned stores!
  • Parking - We are afraid that there is no parking on-site unless you are dropping off for a Show and Tell table. Please see below!

Parking

Unfortunately, parking in Cambridge is a bit of a nightmare and very expensive!

If you are attending the Jam, we would suggest using the Park and Rides available around the outskirts of the city. The Park and Ride bus stops are about a five minute walk away from Makespace. We will provide a map of how to get from them to Makespace!

For those exhibiting in our Show and Tell area, we are hoping be able to arrange a safe drop off. More details on this will be provided later! However, you will still need to move your car and park away from the venue during the event.

There is off-road parking at the Graduate Hotel @ £3 per hour.

For on-street parking, I would suggest Sedgwick Avenue and adjacent side streets. There is more on-street parking along Queen's Road.

Please be warned: you can park at the Grand Arcade car park, but four hours parking is over £14!

Important information for volunteers

All our "Jam Makers" - our name for all the wonderful helpers that make the event possible - must comply with the Raspberry Pi Foundation Safeguarding policy. Ideally, you will have completed the online Safeguarding course linked from that page.
