What does it actually take to transform a major city's relationship with energy, buildings, and environmental justice?
Join us for a conversation with Tyrone Jue, Director of San Francisco's Environment Department, on the city's updated Climate Action Plan and the systemic changes needed to address the climate crisis at the local level.
As the architect of pioneering policies like SF's mandate for commercial buildings to use 100% renewable energy, Ty brings firsthand insight into translating climate ambition into action. He'll share his theory of change for enabling systemic solutions, the initiatives his department is leading, and concrete ways the Climate Action Club community can support local climate efforts that center both sustainability and environmental justice.
Event Plan:
6pm-6:30pm: Mingling and introductions
6:30pm-7pm: Lecture
7pm-7:30pm: Q&A and group discussions
7:30pm-8pm: More chatting and making friends
About Our Speaker:
Tyrone Jue, the first Chinese American and person of color to lead the San Francisco Environment Department, has played a pivotal role in shaping the city’s climate strategy since his appointment by Mayor London Breed in 2022. Rooted in his San Francisco Chinatown heritage and decades of municipal experience, Jue has advanced nationally significant climate and environmental justice policies - from mandating 100% renewable electricity for commercial buildings and accelerating the phaseout of fossil fuels in buildings and transportation, to strengthening air quality regulations for refineries in communities of color. His commitment extends beyond the city through his service on the Bay Area Air Quality Management District Board of Directors, where he has championed cleaner air and environmental justice since 2016.
About Climate Action Club:
Climate Action Club is a Bay Area community for people who care about the climate crisis and want to take meaningful, collective action. We turn climate anxiety into connection, clarity, and civic power - no prior experience required!
