About Chris

Before he became one of Britain’s most distinctive crime writers, Chris Brookmyre was a journalist β€” and that sharp, forensic eye still drives his fiction.

His debut, Quite Ugly One Morning, announced him as a bold new voice in crime writing and launched the now-iconic Jack Parlabane series. Since then, he has built a career defined by razor-sharp satire, tightly plotted thrillers and a willingness to push the genre further.

All Fun And Games Until Somebody Loses An Eye won the Everyman Bollinger Wodehouse Prize, while Black Widow secured both the McIlvanney Prize and the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year β€” a rare double that cemented his reputation at the top of the field.

Alongside his solo work, Chris also co-writes acclaimed historical crime fiction with his wife, Marisa Haetzman, under the name Ambrose Parry β€” blending meticulous research with gripping storytelling.

Few crime writers balance intelligence, pace and dark wit quite like he does.
