Book Club - Tuesday - Sweet Bean Paste

Sentaro has a criminal record, drinks too much, and his dream of becoming a writer is just a distant memory. The blossoming of the cherry trees marks the passing of time as he spends his days in a tiny confectionery shop selling dorayaki, pancakes filled with sweet bean paste. Until, that is, Tokue comes into his life. An elderly woman with disfigured hands and a troubled past, she makes the best sweet bean paste Sentaro has ever tasted. The unlikeliest of friendships blossoms, but it will take all of their resolve to protect themselves when Tokue's dark secret comes to light.
