Join our Black Book Social in Islington! Bring a book that shaped you to the BCC for a relaxed community chat. Part 1 of our new series.

Black literature. Local voices. Join the conversation.

Welcome to the launch of our 3-part community series at the Black Cultural Centre. Written In Colour and Go Africa are teaming up to create a "third space" in Islington for anyone who loves stories that reflect the Black experience and global heritage.

What is "The Story Share"? Our first session is all about the books that shaped us. Before we dive into our featured reading list for the year, we want to see what’s on the community's shelves.

  • The Personal Pick: Bring any book that has made an impact on you. It doesn't have to be a new release or a specific genre—just a story you love.
  • The Chat: Share a few lines on why that book matters to you, or simply listen to what others are reading. No "expert" talk, just honest connection.
  • The Roadmap: This is Part 1 of a series. We’ll be moving from this shared conversation into a community Book Swap & Silent Read (Part 2) and a deep-dive discussion on Yaa Gyasi's Homegoing (Part 3).

Collaboration & Support

This residency is proudly supported by Go Africa Islington and our media sponsors:

  • Out of the Blue
  • The More Knowledge Show
  • Conscious Radio
