A fantastic opportunity for you to try your hand at creating in clay, using hand building techniques and throwing on a potter's wheel.

Welcome to beginners pottery! Whether you fancy creating a ceramic masterpiece or just trying a new skill in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, this is the course for you. The event will run from the bright, cosy art studios of Greenscapes Nursery, where you can also buy a plant, and perhaps make a pot to put it in! During the course you will learn how to create pots and sculptural pieces using throwing and handbuilding techniques.

The course is 6 hours in total over 3 weeks as follows:

  • Friday 16th January 10am until 12pm
  • Friday 23rd January 10am until 12pm
  • Friday 30th January 10am until 12pm

All materials, equipment and the firing of your work in a kiln is included in the price.

Throwing

Throwing can be a theraputic experience, it's fast, fun and messy. It's a tricky technique to master but you can have as much or as little help as you want and will be able to create a pot to be proud of. At some point during the 6 hours, you can have up to 30 minutes to throw on a wheel.

Handbuilding

You can create pots using coiling techniques or using a mould. If you fancy creating a small, scultputal piece you will be taught relevant techniques for this, and will be fully supported.

Adding colour and design

You will be able to add colour, pattern and texture to your work as it progresses. When your work is finished, it will be fired, glazed and fired again. This final process makes your work non-porous and food safe.
