This one-day workshop is suitable for beginners who would like to learn how to take photographs of flowers, birds and butterflies. The workshop will help you to understand the different camera settings and what they are used for, as well as the opportunity to practice techniques used in nature photography.
Spring is a perfect time to practice photography at the Wild Chesil Centre as the sea pinks (or thrift) will be in full bloom. We will be spending some time in the classroom and some outside in the Chesil and Fleet Nature Reserve looking for insects, butterflies and birds.
The workshop will be led by Jenny Warr (ARPS, DPAGB), a nature photographer living in Dorset. "Since I was young, I’ve always had a love for the natural world and photography has given me the ability to not only enjoy experiencing nature, but to capture its beauty and then share it with others. Photographing nature is a very mindful experience where you are entirely focused on the sounds, movement, light and details. Nature is unpredictable though so when it all comes together, and I capture a beautiful image it’s immensely satisfying".
Participants will need to bring their own compact, bridge, mirrorless or dslr camera with the capability to change aperture and shutter speed (there will be a dial on the top of the camera with letters on); the camera manual, a fully charged camera battery, charger and memory card. Please let us know the make and model of the camera you will be bringing during the booking process. A notebook and pen will also come in handy.
During the workshop you will be spending some time outside on uneven ground and sitting on the ground so please wear walking boots, outdoor clothing and waterproofs if wet. Bring a garden kneeler if you have one as we will be getting down low for some photos. There isn't a lot of walking involved but the terrain is uneven and on pebbles.
Workshop cost: £85 per person
Time: 10am to 4pm
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. You will need to bring your own packed lunch or you will be able to purchase something from the onsite cafe.
There is a large pay and display car park on site. Participants will be entitled to a free parking permit for the duration of the course. Please collect this from the Wild Chesil Centre as soon as you arrive.
