In this 2-hour Batik Painting Workshop, participants will dive into the traditional art of batik while exploring Singapore’s unique visual journey—from nostalgic kampung (village) scenes to today’s modern urban landscape. The session begins with a brief introduction to batik as a heritage textile art, tracing its cultural roots in Southeast Asia and its evolving relevance in contemporary design. Participants will be guided through a design exploration phase, where they will be introduced to a variety of Singaporean motifs, including traditional kampung houses, coconut trees, roosters, and wooden jetties, alongside iconic symbols of modern Singapore such as the Merlion, Marina Bay Sands, HDB flats, and city skyline. These visuals will serve as inspiration for their batik artwork, encouraging participants to interpret the transformation of Singapore over time.
