Author’d: A Black Children’s Book Week Author Meet & Greet

About the Event

Author’d is an intentional literary gathering created in celebration of Black Children’s Book Week. It brings together Black authors, young readers, and families for an afternoon centered on storytelling, imagination, and community.

Author’d is a curated space designed for connection, where young people can meet real authors, explore books, ask questions, and see what’s possible when stories are written by people who look like them.

The event is especially meaningful for youth ages 9–14, a pivotal time when imagination and identity are taking shape.

What to Expect

  • Black Author Meet & GreetsMeet and connect with Black children’s and youth authors in an intimate, conversational setting.
  • Emerging Youth VoicesA student showcase featuring original writing and artwork from young creators, highlighting the next generation of storytellers.
  • Intentional Community SpaceA welcoming environment designed for browsing, conversation, and meaningful engagement—not rushing or performances.
  • Lunch IncludedYour ticket includes lunch so families can stay, connect, and enjoy the gathering without leaving midway.

Why Author’d Matters
Representation is powerful—but it becomes transformative when it’s personal.

When young people meet authors, hear their journeys, and see creativity modeled up close, books stop feeling distant. They become real. Possible. Reachable.

Author’d exists to nurture that moment.
