Author Tara Pringle Jefferson joins Zora’s Place to discuss Bloom How You Must, a self-empowering wellness guide honoring rest & resilience.

Join us at Zora’s Place for an intimate and nourishing evening with author and wellness writer Tara Pringle Jefferson, celebrating her powerful book Bloom How You Must—a love letter to Black women and the radical, ancestral practice of caring for ourselves and one another.

Bloom How You Must reminds us that self-care is not a trend for Black women—it is a throughline in our history. From Coretta Scott King, Betty Shabazz, and Myrlie Evers-Williams taking intentional pauses amid the Civil Rights Movement, to Rosa Parks practicing yoga, to Toni Morrison tending her gardens while writing literary classics, this book situates rest, joy, and community as acts of resilience and survival.

Blending guidebook and journal, Bloom How You Must excavates the roots of self-care and community care and transforms them into a practical, affirming blueprint for modern life. Drawing on research from leading wellness experts, interviews with women aged 19–99, personal stories, and reflection exercises, the book offers readers a grounded path toward a less stressful, more intentional way of living.

During this special evening, Tara will discuss:

  • The historical and cultural roots of self-care among Black women
  • Why community care is just as essential as personal care
  • How to build sustainable wellness practices without burnout or perfection
  • What it means to “bloom” in different seasons of life

The conversation will be followed by audience Q&A and a book signing.

Whether you’re beginning your wellness journey or looking to deepen it, this evening offers space to reflect, reconnect, and bloom—on your own terms.
