Join us for a hands-on session with artist Serafina Min, whose work features in our groundbreaking exhibition Beyond the Visual.

Art Socials are informal, sociable sessions for teachers and art educators of all kinds run by Leeds Art Gallery and Henry Moore Institute. We aim to provide a space for teachers and educators to be creative, collaborative and experimental, and gain inspiration to take back into their teaching setting.

Join us for a hands-on session with artist Serafina Min, whose work features in Beyond the Visual, our groundbreaking exhibition showcasing multi-sensory artwork, mainly by blind and partially blind artists.

After a tour of the exhibition - which invites visitors to touch, move and play with artworks - we’ll discover artist Serafina Min’s use of language and description to allow us to experience artwork that we can’t see, and consider how this can support oracy and vocabulary development in the classroom. We’ll then explore materials using multi-sensory approaches, inspired by Serafina’s work as an art teacher with blind children. We’ll consider the texture, sound, weight and temperature of sculptural materials, considering how we can understand and respond to them using senses other than sight. This session will be particularly relevant for those working with neurodiverse and SEND children.
