Join Greenbelt Alliance on an urban outing in Oakland.

This walk features a tour of the historic district of Jack London Square with its repurposed older buildings, murals, new infill development, entertainment district, former Presidential yacht, and shoreline path with views over the water. Weather permitting we will aim for lunch at a new shoreline park at Brooklyn Basin.

Where to Meet

We'll assemble at the northwest corner of Oak Street and 8th Street, where there is an exit from the Lake Merritt BART station; the vicinity is served by BART and AC Transit. Street parking is available,, but check signs for limitations.

About the Outing Leader

Bob Johnson retired after serving for 30 years on the Greenbelt Alliance Board. He has also worked with Urban Advantage to produce photo-realistic visualizations of better urban design. Previously, he worked for many years as a securities analyst in Japan and the Bay Area. With Janet Byron, he co-wrote the book Berkeley Walks featuring self-guided urban tours. A 3rd edition of the book has been released. Bob and Janet are working on a book featuring Oakland Walks, which will include this outing.
