Come join us at AND Creative Studio for a night filled with cinematic magic. Our film club is the perfect place for movie enthusiasts to gather, watch, and discuss films together. Whether you're a casual movie-goer or a die-hard cinephile, this event is for you!
Curated by our resident film nerds: Each month brings a carefully selected gem from the world of cinema's hidden corners. Think surrealist masterpieces, haunting silent films with live musical accompaniment, and underground treasures that challenge perspectives and expand minds.
The evening unfolds as more than just a screening. Arrive early for pre-film discussions where our curators share insights and context. After the credits roll, dive deeper into post-screening conversations that explore themes, techniques, and the lasting impact of these remarkable works.
Of course, no proper film night is complete without snacks to fuel the experience and discussions.
DIY Guerrilla filmmaking night at AND Film Club!!
The theme of this evening’s screening is DIY (Do IT Yourself) filmmaking and there are treats in store!
There will be locally produced music videos, a soon to be announced short film and the evenings feature: FAST GAME FAST MONEY: The Grifters of New York
FAST GAME FAST MONEY: The Grifters of New York is a multi award winning "gritty and irreverent" street documentary that chronicles the illegal gambling games of three card monte, and the “shell game” that were being played on the streets of Manhattan.
In 1993 filmmaker Pericles Lewnes took a now obsolete Hi-8 video camera and employed a number of disguises to get up close and personal with the criminal crews that worked the streets from Time’s Square to Wall Street.
Lewnes worked alone on the streets without a filming permit, and dressed as a homeless person, a messenger, and what he described as a “country bumpkin” to get the necessary footage to produce this one of a kind grainy expose that won the grand prize at the prestigious Rosebud Film Festival, the documentary award at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival, and was an AFI Robert M. Bennet Award Finalist.
FAST GAME, FAST MONEY: The Grifters of New York also features an original soundtrack by Annapolis’ Adrian Bond and David Arthur, and was produced by Lisa DeLucia Lewnes and Ed Bishop.
Audience members will learn EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW about these crooked games and the con artists that play them!
In addition to being screened at the American Film Institute and Worldfest Houston, FAST GAME, FAST MONEY: The Grifters of New York also won a Gold TELLY award, a Crystal Communicator award and the distinguished CINE Golden Eagle.
FAST GAME FAST MONEY: The Grifters of New York, was recently restored from its humble low resolution origin to a (grainy) high definition screening print which will premiere at the AND Film Club on Friday, February 27th. Doors open at 6pm with the program rolling at 7.
Pericles, the director, who is curating the evening will participate in an audience Q&A after the show with the and maybe there will be some surprise guests.
