On February 13, the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra presents Charlie Parker with Strings, a one-night orchestral tribute to Charlie Parker, featuring saxophonist Vincent Herring and his quartet with orchestra. The program centers on Parker’s landmark Charlie Parker with Strings recordings, performed live in their original arrangements, along with additional material realized for full orchestra.
Often regarded as one of the most influential figures in jazz history, Parker reshaped the language of modern music. This concert offers a rare opportunity to hear his string works presented as a complete orchestral program, led by Herring, one of today’s foremost interpreters of the bebop tradition.
The program also includes George Gershwin’s Three Preludes, heard here in an arrangement for string orchestra and solo trumpet, featuring Samantha Atlas.
