Capture the magic of biofluorescence on your smartphone with our workshop at Sheringham Park, led by David Atthowe

Join us for an extraordinary adventure as we explore the fascinating world of Biofluorescence through the lens of a smartphone!

Biofluorescence is a unique phenomenon where certain organisms emit light in different colours from the ones they absorb. We will embark on a guided walk to discover this captivating natural phenomenon up close.

With UV torches provided, we will venture into the darkness to witness a stunning display of biofluorescent organisms in their natural habitat. From fungi to insects and plants, we will encounter a diverse array of species that come alive in vibrant hues of green, blue, red, purple, orange, and more, revealing nature’s hidden spectacles.

This workshop is aimed at anybody who has a modern smartphone and enjoys taking pictures. We will provide you with all the equipment necessary for the experience; you just need to bring a phone with sufficient battery and memory to take photos for the duration of the walk.

Learn about composition, adjusting your phone's camera settings to get the best exposure, how to take photos using the special UV torches, and more.

Please come prepared in warm clothing, as the pace of the walk is slow. We recommend wearing sturdy shoes as the terrain is uneven (walking boots ideal, but trainers adequate) and trousers to avoid stinging nettles. Safety glasses will be provided and must be worn throughout the walk for your protection.

Don’t forget to charge your battery, and make sure that you have sufficient space on your memory card for the experience!
