On December 11, 1965, the nation’s first community health center opened in the basement of a Dorchester public housing project. Its founders believed that health centers could address persistent health inequities and empower underserved communities. Their success sparked a movement. Today, there are over 1,500 health centers nationwide, 50 of which are in Massachusetts.
On the 60th anniversary of the health center movement, join the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers for a celebration in the neighborhood where it all began.
Connect with today’s community health leaders and partners, then learn from inspiring panelists about the legacy of health centers. We are pleased to be joined by an illustrious group of pioneering leaders and award-winning photojournalists.
