Have you always wanted to try oil painting but didn’t know where to begin? This five-week course offers a welcoming introduction to one of the most expressive and enduring art forms. Designed especially for beginners, it provides step-by-step guidance in a relaxed, supportive environment where creativity and experimentation are encouraged.

Across the five sessions, you will build a foundation in oil painting while working at your own pace. Together we will:

  • Explore the colour wheel and practise colour mixing through practical exercises.
  • Develop your observational skills through still-life studies, experimenting with light, texture and composition.
  • Gain confidence handling oils on canvas, learning how to use brushes, mediums and layering to achieve different effects.

All materials are provided (canvas, paints, brushes, mediums and rags), as well as drinks and light refreshments, so you can focus entirely on painting. The course takes place at Brighton Art Space on Regency Street, a welcoming studio where creativity naturally flourishes.

About the Tutor

I am an artist and educator who studied Fine Arts and Art Education in Italy, completing a Bachelor’s degree in Painting with a specialisation in oil painting and a Master’s degree in Art Education. Over the past six years, I have designed and delivered a wide range of art workshops, wellbeing sessions, and heritage-related projects, with a particular focus on using creativity as a tool for connection and self-expression.

In my teaching, I combine my professional expertise with a gentle and inclusive approach, encouraging participants to progress at their own pace. I strongly believe in the transformative power of art and heritage to enhance wellbeing and deeply emphasise the joy of experimentation and discovery, rather than on producing perfect results.
