For over a quarter-century, The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law has hosted the competition, which features an original appellate problem written by a panel of experienced telecommunications and technology attorneys. Competition briefs and oral arguments will be judged by private and government practitioners in the field. Each year, the competition subject is “ripped from the headlines” of current telecommunications, technology, and intellectual property issues, such as potentially illegal jamming of unmanned aerial vehicles, the legality of a contact tracing app's across state lines, consumer privacy of personal information, copyright protection of pre-1972 musical performances, and enforcement of broadcast indecency standards. The competition is co-hosted by The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law's Law and Technology Institute and the Federal Communications Bar Association.
