Join us for an author series exploring influential books from Ohio’s past and present.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Greater Columbus Arts Council, Ohioana Library is excited to present "100 Years of Ohio Authors" — a new event series celebrating a century of Ohio literature!

On January 13 at 6:00 p.m. at Blue Couch Bookshop, we'll cross-examine 1955’s historic play Inherit the Wind, written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. Contemporary author Andrew Welsh-Huggins will discuss this historic work, his own book No Winners Here Tonight, and the justice system with attorney Rachel Troutman.

MEET OUR GUEST SPEAKERS:

Andrew Welsh-Huggins is the author of more than a dozen books, including The Delivery, the forthcoming sequel to the critically acclaimed thriller, The Mailman; the standalone crime novel, The End of The Road; and the Shamus Award-nominated Andy Hayes private eye series. Welsh-Huggins also edited the anthology Columbus Noir, and his short stories have appeared in multiple magazines and anthologies, including The Best Mystery Stories of the Year 2021, 2024, and 2025, and The Best Private Eye Stories of the Year 2025. Andrew’s nonfiction title, No Winners Here Tonight, is the definitive history of the death penalty in Ohio.

Rachel Troutman received her law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and has been practicing criminal law for 22 years. She began her career in 2003 at the Ohio Public Defender in the Death Penalty Department as an assistant public defender, then worked as a supervising attorney for 10 years. While at OPD, she also worked with their Wrongful Conviction Project, and assisted in freeing 13 innocent people from prison. Rachel currently works for the Exoneration Project, a nonprofit organization that provides free legal services to people across the nation who have been wrongfully convicted.
