Know your brassicas from your greedy feeders, your roots from your legumes

Feed yourself from your garden or allotment with the skills you'll gain from this workshop.

You'll go away having had a full rundown of what to plant where, and why, and an understanding of the importance of crop rotation to help prevent the build up of crop-specific pests and diseases.

We'll also cover:

  • Planning crop rotation
  • Companion planting
  • Succession planting
  • The right materials to feed the soil
  • Mutual benefits of attracting wildlife into your plot
  • Affordable kit to help in sowing and planning

Facilitated by Sam from Staa, this workshop takes place on the beautiful Nursery plot at St Ann's Allotments.

About the Nursery

This workshop will take place on our Nursery Garden, a unique and accessible garden for everyone to learn about growing food. It is maintained by volunteers and community groups, and our fresh produce is directed back to local food banks and community cafes.

There is a large commercial-scale glasshouse, and at the top of a classroom with beautiful views over the allotments.

St Ann’s Allotments are Grade II* Listed by Historic England, and designated an Area of Importance for Nature Conservation. It is the oldest and largest are of Victorian detached town gardens in the UK, with over 700-years of history, 500 gardens, and 32 miles of hedgerow.
