Neuro Diverse Art Club
In September at Aunty Social, we begun our monthly creative club, specifically for neuro diverse adults. Each month we will take on a different project, in a friendly and welcoming environment.
This session is all about drawing, but not the quiet kind! We’ll take the idea of ‘automatic writing’ as our starting point and develop a series of ‘scribble portraits.’ You’ll start by making images of your favourite celebrities, but we’ll quickly move on to making self-portraits or drawings of other people in your life. You’ll be able to trace using light boxes to help achieve a likeness, then you’ll get the chance to play with inks, oil pastels and other mixed media to give your drawings colour and depth. We’ll also make use of projectors to help us make some larger-scale works.

Things to note
Mike Cassidy
I studied at Chelsea Art College, graduating in 2007 with a first class degree in Fine Art (Painting). I’ve been making and teaching art ever since. My teaching has brought me into contact with lots of different processes and materials, which have often diffused into my art practice - most notably ceramics, which I’ve been practicing now for over 10 years. I’m interested in how memory, pathos and narrative can be contained in artworks. I think of the process of making an artwork as a story that should always be woven into the things that I make.
Access: If you have additional access needs (e.g. large print, BSL interpreter, level access) Please let us know by emailing or sending us an SMS text/WhatsApp message on 07957 602790
These sessions are in our upstairs workshop space. There is currently no level access. It’s a single flight of 14 steps then you go around the corner and there are two small steps. Once you’re upstairs there’s a loo. You shouldn’t need to come downstairs for anything until the end of the event.
If you can’t manage the stairs but really want to attend, please let us know by emailing (using the contact organiser button/link) or sending us an SMS text/WhatsApp message on 07957 602790 and will try our best to accommodate.
