In the tradition of commedia dell'arte, traveling acting troupes playing stock characters challenged social norms and politics in the guise of entertainment. In this classic comedy set in Venice, mayhem erupts when the wily—and chronically hungry—servant Arlecchino hatches a zany scheme to double his wages (and his meals) by serving two masters at once amidst the intrigue of lovers, misers, and blowhards. Identities are mistaken, engagements are broken, swords are drawn, and lovers are finally reunited in this adaptation of Carlo Goldoni’s commedia dell’arte masterpiece.
