A guided walk from The Dominion to The Savoy admiring some of central London's Deco-tastic 1930's Jazz Age theatres

Jazz Age geometrics, marvellous modernism and 'Art Deco' artistry.

Between 1926 and 1937, but mostly in 1929-30, thirteen theatres in the Covent Garden to Piccadilly area were either revamped or newly-constructed.

Impressarios, owners and managers were keen to keep up with the fun and frivolous forward-thinking zeitgeist of that time, with each theatre offering ever more impressive innovations and sumptuous surroundings, often advertised as better than their rivals.

We will get up close to six of those theatres and also look at some other impressive 'Art Deco era buildings along the way, some of which, despite their size, you may have walked past often and not noticed, such as a book store, a department store, a bank, and the offices of a fruit and vegetable merchant.

The tour starts near The Dominion theatre and finishes at The Savoy Hotel on the Strand. For more info, see the FAQs below.

Customer feedback: "You introduced us to some beautiful buildings" / "I will be joining more of your tours – your knowledge is amazing and I love your jolly style" / "Thanks for opening my eyes Jane" / "OMG, that was brilliant. I have learnt so much. You'll be seeing me again soon!!" /"Jane, you are my favourite guide" / "Wow wow wow – those interiors are amazing - thanks!'" / "As someone who thought he knew Covent Garden well, I am embarrassed to admit I had never before noticed half the things you showed us!" / More feedback here

My guiding style is inclusive, open and friendly. I design and research every tour myself – in fact, the research never ends. The walks and talks I offer are all on subjects that intrigue me and each one highlights a different facet of my personality. I am particularly interested in the architecture of our ever-changing streets and the little details on and above them. For more information, please visit www.janeslondonwalks.com
